Project Description
3D animation, digital projection, existing waterway
The Canowindra grossi is a 360 million year old fish that was found in Canowindra in 1955. By melding science and the arts, this fish once again swam in the local river. The Age of Fishes Museum, in collaboration with the Corridor Project and internationally renowned visual artist Craig Walsh, created 3D animated models of the extinct Devonian fish projected from the swinging bridge into the Belubula River. In addition to this spectacular event, workshops were held during the week for schools and the community that showcased the melding of the Arts and Science. The ongoing extension of this event named the “Devonian Billabong is Alive” involves the recreation of a Devonian billabong in real time 3D highlighting the unique “World Class” Canowindra fossils brought to life for the first time. This era has never before been fully recreated as a virtual environment, making this project a world first.
